Foggy at Barnegat

Foggy at Barnegat©2009pastel on rives bfk 8x14"

Back home to a sunny Virginia from a holiday filled with skies like this one, yet it was so very relaxing.
The fog was quite thick at Loveladies beach on our last vacation day. We stopped in northern New Jersey on the way back. Loveladies is a section of Long Beach Island(Barnegat Inlet) on the New Jersey seashore. There is fantastic architecture in the homes of the wealthy on the beach for viewing pleasure!
The Atlantic up north is so much more moody than in the south. I love it. I am playing around again with the notion of atmosphere rather than true depiction. Working in pastel on a smooth surface like the printmaking paper I am using is a challenge but I like the buttery quality it gives, especially for a scene like this.
Thanks to all for visiting and your patience with my posting replies, we did not have computer access the last three days which in some ways was a respite. Escape once in a while is good.
More on Boston and the wonderful art there later.
