Portrait Drawing WIP:day 3- 4 steps

Graphite pencil on Strathmore 500 paper. 14 x 18

Staring with the top image, this is how the day progressed from flat form to the beginnings of a graded drawing. With all steps, attention is given to shapes, transitions, edges, modelling into the lighter areas, gradually working from general to specific.
The portrait is approximately life size, maybe a bit smaller.
Five hours work on this today. About ten hours more to finish. This is the exciting part; watching how the smallest change affects the whole....knowing that there is always something to attend to...never boring.
