Contemporary Still life: Red Pears by Virginia Fine Artist Cathyann Burgess

Seeing Red©2010C.L.Burgess oil on cradled wood 10 x10

I have been teaching young men again full time for the past two weeks and have little energy at day's end for painting, sadly. Teenagers do that to you. :-) Happily tired, I still managed to lift a brush to dash this all prima off in the afternoon sun coming into my studio. I hope to post more regularly as my tenure comes to an end in November.
There are so many interesting things to paint, but sometimes the pear is just the most seductive form. And...red...my favorite and most challenging color. Who could ask for more?

Beautiful brushwork and shadows, Cathyann! I can't believe you are able to get a painting done after teaching all day. I've been teaching art to 9 year olds for only an hour a week. They are a joy, but I can see how teaching all day long would be very draining!

Having spent the last two weeks producing two works of an apple I can understand why the pear grabs you. Yes teenagers have a strange art of taking all your strength.

I love this little composition, such rich colours, Cathyann! I know exactly how exhausted one can be after teaching...The adrenalin stays up because one must be aware every moment and also needs to know waht goes on behind your back!

Happy Painting.
