Mountain Snow Day ©2011C.L.Burgess oil on paper 4x11
There is something strong and hopeful about the following excerpt from the poem by Tennyson that speaks to me at each celebration of a New Year. Long ago, I loved singing in my high school chorus and it was one of my favorites.
This little painting was completed while enjoying the snow from inside, painting side by side with my grandchildren in Colorado,this past Christmas.
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more,
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Cheers! And good wishes to you all this 2012.

Happy New Year to you! A great way to spend the holidays, with grand kids.
Cathyann , how wonderful, your painting reflects the happiness and joy you must have felt being with your grandchildren and seeing that beautiful scene you captured.Happy New Year to you and your family.
Enjoyed all, the painting and the words, both yours and his. Enjoy the New Year.
What a beautiful Colorado winter scene. Unlike the 50 degree weather we had here!
