Waiting Their Turn ©C.L.Burgess oil on linen panel 6x8
I love watching the birds feed in my yard!
On this cold dreary afternoon, I decided to do a plein air painting as they lined up to eat.
I wanted to do this rapidly so I used minimal color and one brush for the entire painting. The brush used to be a filbert, size 4 but is more like a cat's tongue now that it has been used so much. However, that worked well as I twisted and turned it as I laid on the paint, fine lines and scrubbing and dabbing came equally as easy.
Sometime a painting just paints itself. Don'tcha just love those days?

This painting made me smile. I am a bird lover too.
I remember visiting the studio of a man whose work I admired immensely. He had a stash of nasty brushes, really worn and frayed. I mentioned that it was time to buy new and he replied, "Oh no. I finally have them where I want them!"
Really nice painting!
Patty, glad to know you love the birdsAND my painting!
I feel like the man you mention about some of mine, too. we are a quirky bunch, aren't we?
Happy painting!
It's nice to see your birds enjoying the bird feeder. Do bears ever come by and try and get a snack too?
